We have 30 people registered for class. I need to know if you have your own book or you need one.

Hi Gang,

Class Crossroads Radical starts this Sunday and we will be meeting in Room 122. As you know we will be studying the book Radical: Taking Back your Faith from the American Dream.  I want you all to read the first chapter of the book prior to coming to class on Sunday, February 6 at 9:00 AM.

There will be copies of the book available for purchase. The cost for this batch is $8.00 (Sorry our special price with Amazon has expired).

Please read this assignment prior to our first class.

Here is the first week’s assignment –

Please pray your way to our class time. If you start reading the book and just can’t put it down I would ask you to reread the weekly chapter assignments so they are fresh in your mind and we don’t discuss things covered in future lessons. I am going to do my best to keep us on topic.

Our class is going to be very large at this point and class time will be packed with thought provoking segments.

Let’s push our class comments and questions to the forum on our new church website.  You must become a member of our new church webpage to post to this forum.

I am very excited about our class and can’t wait to get started. Let me know if you have any questions.

OK - that was a BIG class. There were 62 of you present today. Thanks for joining me on this life-changing adventure. One of the questions that David Platt asks that we did not address this morning in class is, "Am I willing to believe this book?" as he tenderly holds the Bible. Are we willing to take the words of Jesus to our hearts and allow the Truth of God radically rearrange our lives that we might be the instrument of increased glory to God?

That's Radical

One of my concerns coming in to the class was the term "hate".  I was really struggling with Jesus telling us to hate everyone and then tells us to love everyone as God loves the Church.  Your explanation of the term made me feel a lot better.  Thanks for your commitment to our salvation!

As I am reading this book and reflecting upon it all, I am reminded of this verse Matthew 4:19-20 "Come follow me, Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 At once they left their nets and followed him". What is grabbing me here is that these two men Simon and Andrew have no hesitation in leaving everything and going with Christ! "At once" no questioning, no well what about this, how will we, who will.... nothing they dropped what they were doing and went with Jesus. Now at this time these guys take this leap of faith and radical abandonment without knowing for sure even who this man is or miracle witnessing of any type, we know today who this man was and what he has done and his statement is still the same "come follow me". Just two chapters in to this and I am challening my faith, these two men show an awesome example I think of truly following Christ and radical abandonment. I pray for us all to take these leaps of faith and stand for Jesus that whatever he ask of us, without ponder or hesitation, or clinging to the things of this world that we would drop everything and serve him.
Halfway!  What a challenging lesson we are learning.  One thing that I have learned both through this book/class and the messages of Pastor Randy and Pastor Keith is that we are too often asking for the guidance and wisdom of what God's will is for us but we are not listening for His answer.  We are too quick to act on how we feel and how we should react according to what we feel is best for us.  Do we go to other nations or do we stay at home, pray and supply the financial need?  Only God can answer that question but I can tell you from my experience in Haiti, you are not doing what God's will is if you are not stepping outside your comfort zone.  This was my first missions trip outside the U.S. and I was more anxious and uncertain about what was going to happen, but I also felt that God had called me there.  He supplied the financial need, which was an uncertainty, as well as the time that I needed to take off work.  Our first night there we had no place to stay....He took care of that as well.  We encountered laboring crews with machetes that were not happy that we came across their  fields where they were working....He got us out of there as well.  Our team saved the life of a 3 year old boy that was possibly hours from death when all he needed was someone that knew his needs....fluids, and provide them.  What an awesome experience.  Saving the life of that boy when he came into the clinic unresponsive and near death to seeing him leave the clinic, running down the road three to four hours later was worth listening to what God had me do.  I am so glad that I listened to God's calling for me that I am ready for Him to call me somewhere else.  It was also quite an experience to sit around the table outside the clinic at night and sing with the Haitians.  Funny how Third Day, Michael W. Smith and others have had their music travel around the world.  The Haitians sang in their French/Creole language and we sang in English.  It was something that I will cherish forever.  This trip not only changed the lives of some of the Haitian people but changed my life as well.  Thank you God for the calling!
thank you John for sharing your personal experience in finding the sweet spot of God's will. Indeed he has spoken and we need to obey.
I came across this video some time ago and thought it was fitting with everything we have been reflecting upon in class, thought I would share.
Hi Tony, very thought provoking video - thanks for posting. Let's turn the conviction of God into a new radical lifestyle that brings a greater amount of glory to our God by caring for the least of these. r
Wow!!!  Makes me think every time I pull out my wallet.  Thanks for sharing the video.  It brought yet another dimension to my spending habits.  What a time we are in.
